Carlos Bunga’s exhibition Absence includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, video, and a site-specific installation. The paintings make use of mass-produced materials such as cardboard, felt and house paint, alluding to colorful interior walls or pointing to the space surrounding them. A series of sculptural works explore concepts of fragmentation and engage in a conversation with a series of fifty-four drawings. Central to the exhibition is the site-specific installation that emerges from a dialogue with the gallery space. A nearly invisible structure, the installation derives its monumentality from what is not there, encouraging viewers to rethink their experience of space.
